Dear Hiring Manager,

This letter entails my application to be considered for the role of Summer Reading Teacher at the Institute of Reading Development. My passion for the accessibility of books through building upon reading comprehension paired with my experiences volunteering with students from grades 1-9 highlight my joy and preparedness for this position. My values align with the Institute of Reading Development’s mission and I would love to be a part of teaching the next generation of readers.

Having my love for reading and writing as a child turn into my pursuit of an English major in college showcases my enthusiasm for literature. It was important for me growing up to be able to use reading not only for my personal enjoyment but also for academic success. Reading has bolstered my academic success over the years through being on the Highest Honors Roll all throughout high school, the Dean’s List all throughout college, and becoming a member of Sigma Tau Delta. The international English society, Sigma Tau Delta, has provided opportunities for me academically and professionally as I presented my own critical analysis essay at their annual convention back in March. Obtaining this position would allow me to share my passion for reading with a new generation of readers who will not only grow their imaginations but their ability to think critically when learning, thus benefiting them as they grow into adults.

Over the years, I’ve worked with a variety of students through numerous volunteering experiences. Being a coach for basketball camps developed my patience and ability to redirect kids back to the task at hand. Organizing drills and keeping track of the 20 or more kids, depending on the day, required active interaction with the kids on a personal level to ensure their safety and comfort while participating in various games and drills. Building relationships with the students provided them with the confidence and support they needed to challenge themselves and work hard at the camp. These skills will transfer to this position as it truly is about the children’s success in the program.

Overall, I am ready and enthusiastic to apply my current abilities and knowledge to this position while learning new skills and information along the way. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience through my email (annika1mor@gmail.com). I appreciate your time and consideration for this role. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Annika Morschauser
